I've had a rough go of things in the last few years. I am very sorry to those who do follow me. I got divorced, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and in November of 2019 my best friend lost her battle with cancer.

I recently started painting and reading again. I plan to get this blog back on track. The goal is to re-design and get back to blogging about my book reviews. I would like to try to resume writing my novel. Originally it was a crime/suspense, but after re-reading some of it, I may add some humor and sass to it.
I've been a horrible blogger. I have ignored my own blog! I have gone back to college again... I have been working on a 2-year degree on and off for 10 years. I know that's funny and stop laughing. Nah, that's okay, you can laugh... I am

I am almost done with an Associates of Science in Liberal Arts and Science, as well as, Criminal Investigative Sciences. Classes are going fantastic. I have not written any short stores or worked on my children's book series. I also have not finished my fiction, mystery novel. I have painted some more. Some I am really proud of.
Not so much. Wow. I've never had to write so many research papers in my life. I think in just one semester, yes 1, I need to write 5 research papers. Due to my return to college, I've not written anything for my book or any books for that matter. I wish I was working on my books instead. I've also not read nearly enough either. LOL! Great news though, I'm able to see the top of my desk again. 😉Kim Yannayonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02127244974884971151noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3628922606435478207.post-8213011357063132612018-01-15T16:30:00.001-08:002018-01-15T16:31:26.561-08:00Baby it's Cold Outside!For those that don't know my husband and I currently reside in Southern Illinois! Where there are only 2 seasons, Summer and Winter. A few years ago my husband purchased a house with lots of character. It's old and it needs work. One of the things that need work, is the windows and doors. I really think this will be the last winter in our current situation. It's just too cold. I grew up living in fairly newer homes, so this is a change. I am ready for summer! I'm done with layers!
Positive reviews can be exhilarating and often rewarding. Knowing that somewhere, someone out there appreciates and felt something for your hard earned work. However, no one likes reading a negative review of their own book.

As a writer, albeit a novice perhaps, I understand the hard work and mental process that goes into writing. I am an avid book reader. I originally started this blog with the idea and concept of reviewing my thoughts on all the books that I've read. Obviously, I have not done that. Sure, I've written a few but otherwise, I've treated this blog more as a personal journal.

Nevertheless, with all that said I recently read a book that made me cringe. I was proud of myself for finishing it when I wanted to delete it from my kindle. I felt horrible for leaving a negative book review. I wish I could have given the author points just for the hard work and storyline and what not, but ultimately the review is for the book and not the author.

I know it seems stupid, but this review is really making me feel bad because I am an author/writer. I know it will be easy for people to probably figure out what all books I've reviewed but I choose not to say in this post.

I do want to talk about why I left the review I did. I have several pet peeves when it comes to books.

Does the title of the book match the story? No, this one didn't at all.

Does the about the book match the story? No, this one didn't.

Does the description give the reader a heads up on language, sexual scenes, situations etc.? No, not at all. I was actually quite disgusted. Somethings are just not my cuppa tea. Example. If I'm reading a romance novel, I'd like to know if it is between a man and a woman, same sex, menage a trois, etc. and I feel that kind of disclosure should be in the description and about this book.

Also, another pet peeve I have is grammar. I am not referring to the uses of there, their, they're; although that is important. I am referring to linguistic grammar. If an author is American and their characters are Irish, I would like and expect them to use Irish references. If the author is British and they set their characters in America, then I would like them to use the correct term (flat vs apartment, jumper vs sweater etc.)... However, I am very hypocritical on this. I have a tendency to use British phrases, spelling, and terms in my everyday use but not in my stories. I am actually very anal-retentive of it and I think it goes toward the story and mindset.

Now, with that being said I had a problem with the author having the character whose an Amercian using British terms of endearment. It was also very repetitive. Almost every time the character spoke to the other. "No worries, love." Love is not often used. I have never met an American without British heritage to use the endearment love. Sweetheart, Babe, Sugar etc. that's more commonly used.

I also cannot stand the echoing of words. Okay, a sporadic word or phrase for dramatic effect is fine but to the point that it's every paragraph... Arrgh! In case you're wondering what I mean by echoing I will explain. "We will get our revenge, yes we will get our revenge." "That will do pig, that will do."It gets old quick.

So, with all that I had to leave a 1 star. It was just too much. Again, I wish that I could have given the author a higher star rating for their accomplishments of creating and writing the book, but it's not about the author, it's about the book. I just hope that if I leave someone a negative book review they understand I don't mean it personally. Yes, I understand it's hard not to take it that way because it's your work and maybe a piece of you.

Thank you.
My mother-in-law and best friend are both fighting different cancers. It's made me think about my life, what all I've done or have yet to do. After many sleepless nights I decided to organise a bucket list. Why not? I'm almost 32 and tomorrow is never promised. What are some things on y'all's list? Mine has some simple things like traveling, and learning new skills. Then there are some out there ones, or so I think. Just a few thoughts..
I tend to be a negative person, it's not from choice just circumstance. It's true that everyone suffers from their own personal demons, some worse than others. When I find myself going down that path again I try to make jokes or look on the bright side. My family wouldn't agree with that statement though. All they see is the serious side of me, but I assure you it's there and many others would agree. I also found that work or whatever task your doing works better if you make jokes.

One of my demons if my weight. I remember being a size 10/12 thinking I was fat. Oh, how I wish I could go back in time and Gibb smack myself. Today in rehearsal I sat on something and it broke. I was told later that it was old, not put together well, etc. It doesn't matter, the damage to my pride and psyche are already done. I wish that I was a more positive person who could have laughed that off. No, I turned my back and cried like a little girl. Ashamed. When I got home I made my family dinner, took more diet pills, and worked out while my muscles screamed and then I cried again.

Tonight, I really wished I was that positive person that I know I can be. I've seen her, I know she exists. Maybe tomorrow will make be a better day. Maybe what I feel is a huge ordeal is perhaps less than a blimp in other people's minds.

If you don't actually read the book, don't fucking rate it 1 star.
If you don't actually use the product, don't fucking rate it 1 star.
If you don't actually see the movie, don't fucking rate it 1 star.
If you've never been to the restaurant, don't fucking leave bad reviews.

Do these people not think? Negative ratings and reviews hurt people and businesses. If you were actually involved, and have a real issue or problem then yes complain. But to say I've never read this book, I give it 1 star damages an author's rep and confidence.

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 1.3em;">
Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families. On that date, America watched in horror as approximately 3,000 people died including hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers. Many warriors note a sense of duty to volunteer for the military following these tragic events.

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 1.3em;">
Sept. 11 also served as a stimulus for Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and New Dawn. Operation Iraqi Freedom refers to military operations in Iraq that began March 19, 2003 and officially ended August 31, 2010. Operation Enduring Freedom refers to combat operations in Afghanistan and other regions in support of the Global War on Terror. Operation New Dawn refers to the conclusion of operations in Iraq beginning September 1, 2010 and ending December 15, 2011.

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 1.3em;">
With advancements in battlefield medicine and body armor, an unprecedented percentage of service members are surviving severe wounds or injuries. For every US soldier killed in World Wars I and II, there were 1.7 soldiers wounded. In Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, for every US soldier killed, seven are wounded. Combined, over 48,000 servicemen and women have been physically injured in the recent military conflicts.

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 1.3em;">
In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another 320,000 are believed to have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment.

I hope things are finally looking up for me and my family. I've had a rough couple of years. I am very blessed and fortunate to be working with great people. I have a small role in a short trilogy and I am even the Office Production Manager. It's truly nice to do a job that people appreciate you and don't talk down to you.

Also, my husband's business Quality By Design Construction is doing great. He's swamped with work and is extremely hard working. I am managing the office and website for his business as well. I must say I am quite impressed with how far my web building skills have come without proper schooling.

Today, I had an audition/ phone interview for a national commercial and print campaign. I pray to God I get the job.... If you could be so kind as to pray or send positive thoughts, I would appreciate it.

I've kinda held off on my books at the moment. Perhaps this year, I will get back into it. I don't know, I am just tired of people soliciting me into buying advertisement, or my personal favorite, "Hi, we would love to feature you in our magazine." I reply "sure". Then I get the email of the catch. "Great, just send us $xxx.xx and we will feature you."

REALLY...?? So you don't want to feature me or include my book you want me to buy a column in a magazine I've never heard of. Sad this is, Ive this same email/scam whatever, 3 times.

I got a better one for ya. "Hi, I'd like to purchase the right to your book, but you need to pay me $2000.00 that's refundable"...

Bloody Hell, I swear people are horrible lately. My husband jokes that they are just trying to make money to pay off those credit cards from Christmas.. LOL. Perhaps so.

Nevertheless, I had still managed to see the positive side of things and I'd like to think not everyone has an agenda. Perhaps,.. but I wont stop believing....

Take care,
xoxoxo
Oddly enough, I am not sure how I even acquired the book to be honest. Perhaps, in a yard sale. Nevertheless, the book itself is in great condition as it was published in 1995. Moving on...

I would say "Stage Fright" is a for young adults. The back of the book states "When Alison is hired as a queen's attendant at the Merrie Ole England summer fair, it seems like the perfect job. But she soon discovers danger lurking in this fantasy world. There's someone who'll stop at nothing to see Merrie Olde England destroyed. Alison sets out to solve the mystery with the help of Robin, a handsome entertainer at the fair. But when the villains begin to stalk Alison, the stakes are suddenly much too high. Will her plan to save the fair be the final curtain for Alison?"

After reading that back cover how could anyone not be curious. I am surprised I've never heard of Erica Field before. The book has the same feel as an R. L. Stine or Christopher Pike book. I really enjoyed the story line and the characters. Perhaps my favorite part of the book was the playful banter between the two main characters. I could easily see this book be turned into a kid's PG-13 movie. All in all, I loved the book and I will be looking for more books by Erica Field.Kim Yannayonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02127244974884971151noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3628922606435478207.post-31075225879641699072016-07-20T18:51:00.001-07:002016-07-20T18:51:44.721-07:00Lucy's Big Mess 60 sec commercialKim Yannayonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02127244974884971151noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3628922606435478207.post-1078749826450840312016-07-08T21:50:00.003-07:002016-07-08T21:50:47.572-07:00Quality By Design Construction
